FAQ
What is BioShield®75 antimicrobial product protection?
Technical: BioShield®75 technology is a spray-on antimicrobial protection for porous and non-porous surfaces. BioShield®75 antimicrobial protection gives substrates an added level of protection against damaging microbes such as bacteria, mold and mildew that can cause stains, odors and product deterioration.
Non-technical: BioShield®75 is a long-lasting surface protectant used in conjunction with normal cleaning procedures to greatly reduce or eliminate the buildup of MRSA, Type A Influenza (Swine Flu), E. coli, Salmonella, mold, etc. It is effective on nearly any surface, including cutting boards, countertops, door handles, walls, locker room floors, restrooms, gym mats, etc. The list is nearly endless!
How does BioShield®75 antimicrobial protection work?
Technical: The active ingredient in the BioShield®75 forms a colorless, odorless, positively charged polymer, which chemically bonds to the treated surface. You could think of it as a layer of electrically charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the quaternary amine sword punctures the cell membrane and the electrical charge shocks the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial doesn’t lose strength and the sword is ready for the next cell to contact it. Note that in order for the BioShield®75 Antimicrobials to continue their effectiveness, normal cleaning of treated surfaces is necessary. Dirt buildup, paint, dead microbes, etc. will cover the treatment prohibiting it from killing microorganisms.
Non-technical: BioShield®75 forms an odorless, colorless, completely NON TOXIC microscopic “bed of nails” on a surface and punctures the cell wall of microbes that land on the surface, and then electrocutes the microbe. All of this happens mechanically, so the microbe is unable to build up an immunity to BioShield®75. This protection lasts a minimum of 90 days, no matter how often the surface is wiped down or cleaned. In fact, normal cleaning is necessary to maximize the effectiveness of BioShield®75. Without normal cleaning, dirt buildup, paint, dead microbes, etc. will build up a layer of film that prevents the “bed of nails” from coming in contact with the microbe and killing it.
What benefit do I get from products with BioShield®75 antimicrobial protection?
Technical: BioShield®75 protection continuously fights the growth of microbes that can cause stains, odors and product degradation. BioShield®75 protection makes the surfaces in your home or business easier to clean and keeps them cleaner and fresher between cleanings.
Non-technical: BioShield®75 protects your family, customers and employees from the spread of deadly microbes like MRSA and the Swine Flu, to name just a couple, by keeping touch points like door handles and countertops microbe-free.
What types of microorganisms does BioShield®75 protection work against?
Technical: BioShield®75 antimicrobial protection is effective against most common bacteria, yeasts, molds and fungi that cause stains, odors and product degradation.
Non-technical: The list is long and impressive. Here is just a small sample of the microorganisms BioShield®75 protects against:
- MRSA
- Staph
- Type A Influenza (Swine Flu)
- E. coli
- Salmonella
- Ringworm
- Mold
- Mildew
- Athlete’s Foot
- Shigellosis
How do I know that BioShield®75 antimicrobial product protection is safe?
Technical: BioShield®75 technology has undergone extensive independent laboratory testing and has a long history of safe use. It is registered with the EPA for all applications in which it is used.
Non-technical: BioShield®75 is USDA accepted and EPA registered. When wet, BioShield®75 is only as toxic as 1/10th of a Bayer aspirin and when dry is completely non-toxic!
Does this mean I don’t have to clean my products as much or as carefully?
Technical: No. BioShield®75 protection provides continuous antimicrobial protection that protects the surfaces in your home, helping to make them easier to clean and keeping them cleaner between cleanings. However, normal cleaning practices should be maintained.
Non-technical: No. in order for BioShield®75 to be most effective, normal cleaning needs to be continued. Cleaning wipes away dead microbes and other dirt that can cover up BioShield®75’s “bed of nails” and diminish its’ ability to kill microbes landing on the treated surface.
Does BioShield®75 protection begin working immediately?
Technical: BioShield®75 protection begins to work as soon as the microorganism comes into contact with the product surface. It then works continuously to maintain a consistently lower bio-burden than would be expected on a surface without BioShield®75 antimicrobial protection. Under the right conditions, microbes on an untreated surface can double every 20 minutes! BioShield®75 technology is not a disinfectant and is not a substitute for normal cleaning practices.
Non-technical: YES! BioShield®75 protection begins working as soon as it is sprayed on and left to dry.
How long does BioShield®75 antimicrobial protection work?
Technical: BioShield®75 protection is applied to the surface and will not wash off. BioShield®75 protection is engineered to provide continuous antimicrobial product protection for ninety (90) days or greater, keeping the products in your home or business cleaner and fresher for longer than ever before.
Non-technical: BioShield®75 protection lasts a minimum of 90 days! On surfaces like cutting boards and kitchen countertops, that receive a lot of use and cleaning, applying BioShield®75 every 90 days is recommended. On the other hand, a treated wall may need to be treated only once a year (or less).
Has anyone ever gotten sick from using products with BioShield®75 antimicrobial protection?
Technical: Extensive testing and a long use history have shown BioShield®75 surface protection to be safe. When applied to a surface, for the few moments the surface is wet, it contains the toxicity of 1 tenth of a Bayer aspirin. After it dries, it is completely NON-TOXIC to humans and other mammals. And while it is impossible to say that no one will ever experience an allergic reaction to anything, it is highly unlikely a negative experience would be observed.
Non-technical: We are aware of no reports of negative reactions to BioShield®75. While wet, it is only as toxic as one tenth of a Bayer aspirin and once dry is completely NON TOXIC to humans and other mammals. And while it is impossible to say that no one will ever experience an allergic reaction to anything, our experience leads us to believe it highly unlikely.
Does the use of antimicrobials cause resistant strains of microorganisms?
Technical: NO!! Because BioShield®75 kills microbes mechanically, there is no opportunity for cell adaptation or mutation. Thus, they can not develop an immunity to BioShield®75.
Non-technical: NO! BioShield®75 is NOT a poison. It kills microbes mechanically, so there is no opportunity for the microbe to adapt and build up an immunity to BioShield®75, making it the perfect product for long-term surface protection!
